Excellent bike. I had a '98, and it felt a little top-heavy to me, but I'm only about 5"9". I would still buy another.

Saw a naked on sale for $6,000 when I was shopping for my new bike last year. If my financing wasn't approved I was going to buy it out-right with $5,000 cash and my trade (NightHawk 700SC). I obviously got approved for the most expensive bike I looked at, though, so c'est la vie!

I love my bandit '02 600, but would love the extra power of the 1200.

I own a 96 1200 Bandit and I would never buy another bike. It has plenty of get up and go and sails through corners beautifully.
It is easily the best bike I have ever ridden.

I share your admiration. I have a '98 1200, installed a Stage one jet kit, replaced front fork springs with a stiffer set, otherwise stock. Really a different bike with those mods, no lean spot and no diving into corners. Every year new bikes come out and every year I appreciate the big Bandit more. Very Fast and easy to ride fast. Quick enough, fun, and stable in the corners (with the stiffer front springs), good brakes, and all day comfortable. Fast and tough made it the original hooligan, smooth and fun in the corners, comfortable enough to be a camper's ride. Jeesh, what else could a guy want?
The seating position, small fairing/naked look, analog gauges, handlebars, and price suit me perfectly. A center stand, 40mpg, and it carries a set of Nelson-Rigg soft bags with ease. And I never get tired of looking at it. It doesn't have all the latest techno-gizmos, but it ain't a track bike. It's made for the road where it excels in spades.
Usually the "all around do everything UJM bike" tag means versatile but boring. My B12 is never boring.
IMHO the 1200 Bandit will go done as one of the best bang for the buck bikes ever made.
