At the tail end of winter, I was going through the local buy and sell and saw an add for a Suzuki gs400 for $250. I have been looking at and researching motorbycles (thats what my 4 year old calls them, heh0 for a while now, and I wanted a decent used one. Now, I saw this, and thought "Wow, great deal. I know I'm going to drop it... wait, whats wrong with it?" So a 45 minute drive later to look at the bike (It doesn't start, thats whats wrong with it) with my father in law, I give the man his money, and take the bike home. I figured we could diagnose and hopefully fix it. If not, it was going back into the buy and sell with the diagnosis. First new battery, yay, it turns over now. Replace several small parts, clean carbs, it still has trouble starting. I needed a starter. Got one off ebay for $90 and now it runs. On saturday I'm going to take my first (short, slow) ride on it and see how badly I fall off.

This place is great by the way, lots of info and lots of knowledgable people.

And I have steel toed shows, jacket, gloves and helmet already.

Welcome to the forum.

I highly recommend taking a basic riding course before just hopping on the bike. It's hard to grasp certain motorcycle concepts early on like counter steering, but very easy to learn lots of bad habits. If you are in the U.S. look into the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course. You can find courses near you on their website msf-usa.org

Happy riding

Oh yes, thats the plan. Although I'm in Canada, so the us site wont help me much... There's a local school near by.
