1980 Honda CM 400 T turning signals...

#1 Unread post by new2bikes »

Hi everyone! My name is John and I'm new to bikes. I just got a starter. Everything worked when I bought it, but when I went to get it inspected the right turning signal kept clicking really fast, but did not work, so I failed. Then I noticed the headlight doesn't work now. Any suggestions? I found the source of the clicking, it is a small (about 3 inches) cylinder shaped thing under side panel. I assume it is a switch, relay, or fuse of some sort. I checked the bulb, and that isn't a problem. Is there a fuse some where I should check first? Anyone know what this cylinder is?

I appreciate any help, and hopefully I can contribute back to this site someday.

Hello there, that round thing is the turn signal relay and it clicks real fast when one of the bulbs is bad.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

One or more of the bulbs are most likely bad. A visual inspection will sometimes fool you. They are not expensive, either.
There is no such thing as a bad motorcycle.

Thank you. But, when I switched the bulbs, the right side still didn't work, and when I put the bulb I thought didn't work into the other side, it worked just fine. Also, my headlamp stopped working.

Just going to ramble here as the others have already covered what I would have said to start with...
  • Has the bike sat in the rain? are any of the connections, sockets wet? There's usually a wiring harness in the headlight, make sure it's not corroded.
  • Did you check (and replace) both front and rear indicator bulbs?
  • Fuses all ok?
  • Follow the wires, any damage to wires?
