HELP! Semi-technical question here
I just completed a 4 hour trip on my bike and near the end of the trip the temp gauge was reading HOT! I took the faring off and found that the reserve tank was filled way above the high line and the radiator itself was very low on coolant. The bike did not come with an owners manual and it is a 2000 CBR 600 F4. Any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind. I figured it out. I just emptied the reserve, put it back into the radiator and everything seems to be working fine. Gold star for me! I think that the bike has been like that ever since I owned. It was very encouraging to see the fan turn on when the temp gauge was at 2/3 instead of 4/5. Does anyone know if the return system from the reserve to the radiator would get fouled up if the reserve was way too full?

No ... whoever put the coolant in the last time didn't bleed the system. if you just put your water into the reserve tank, the waterpump won't be able to pull it through the system. Your temp sensor for the fan is usually near your thermostat on the top of the housing - most likely, the sensor wasn't fully submerged in water, hence giving out a false reading to the fan to switch on.
You still may need to bleed the system ... there should be a bleeder screw somewhere in the system which allows you to 'burp' it - let all the air out of the system for optimal water flow. Your MOM migh have details on this.

So after my return trip home my overflow tank is once again above the full line. My plan of attack is to replace the radiator cap and the flow line betwixt the radiator and the overflow tank. If that doesn't work then I will replace the thermometer. Any other suggestions out there. MOM - and I thought I was getting insulted! What a homer I am.

Sorry bout that.
The radiator cap 'may' be a problem, but it is possible you just filled the radiator too much the last time. It would be nice to know at what temp the fan was coming on, and at what temp it's supposed to come on - if it's cooling normally, I don't think it's necessary to go about replacing bits.

Well I didn't add any coolant to the bike other than the existing coolant in the system. I just emptied the overfill tank to the low limit and topped the radiator off, it was full. The system should be overflowing the coolant to the overfill tank when hot and then back into the radiator as it cools (which isn't happening). However when the radiator was full the fan actually turned on at around the 2/3 mark of the temp gauge; opposed to the usual 4/5's prior. I have to wonder if the bike has been running like this ever since I purchased it.
