Buddy, why don't you pick up a smaller bike to start out on. A 1200cc Harley can be a handful.

Thanks for answering my post. I was looking for a smaller bike and stumbled onto this bike. I offered $ 2700 for it he was asking $3200 and we settled on $2850 (I mean thatS cheap for that bike.) I test road a yamha 400 and it was beat and I didn,t feel right I am to big. Than I looked at a suzuki 550 and a 650 one need work. Front dic and pads needed replacing and the brake lights didn't work for foot brake. the 650cc the owner lost the keys so can't start it. Then there was this triumph 1971 t-100 trophy 500 cc i was gona jump all over it. rebiulte it was perfect then I tried to find parts on cheap parts.com and biker bandit.com nothing! not one part. Then I called the dalership for triumph no deal
you say you have a triumph where do you get parts . maybe I can call him back he wants 3000 that a lot of money I dont have and what am i going to get
when I want to move up. I am there with the harley as long as I don't do somthing stupid. I tryed uploading a pic of a true friend buddy the dog hes a pit like I see you have on your site a little friendlyer. but I don't see it. probly tomany pixels

Yeah - the conversion of sportsters from 883 to 1200 is not unusual, even I have heard of it

you're better off going to xlforum.net for this. The 1200 conversion is fairly common. If youve never truly ridden a street bike, I concur that the 1200 will be a bit much. Very torquey.

1200 sporty is a handful at low speed, very torquey.
the 883 to 1200 conversion is pretty common, would probably want to ask about any reliability issues on a harley forum.
I would look for a smaller bike for a first bike, if you really like harleys the 883 would be a good choice.

At that price it's probably sold already. Pre-2004 sportster engines weren't rubber mounted either. Though I haven't ridden one by all accounts the vibrations are quite harsh on those things. I notice even on my 09 after riding for a while my arms are numb from the vibrations.
