Polishing a windscreen

Hi guys:
My bike has a small plastic (acrilic?) windscreen that has become scratched and opaque, not very see-through anymore...
Ive been thinking about a way to polish it so its like new again because the bike is going into the shop this monday for a bit of an overhaul with new parts I had sent down here (Mexico city).
I had thought of using my dremel with a felt cilinder tip to do the job but i dont know what results that might get.
Any ideas on a better way to do it?

You could try some Plast-X to see if that would help. It helps to remove small swirls and oxidation. I found it did a good job on my windshield.

I've never tried it yet, but I've been thinking of using one of the automotive headlight restoration systems on the windshield on my FJ. I'm thinkin' if it makes plastic headlight covers look new, it should do the same on a plastic windshield.

There are quite a few. If you happen to know where real professional autobody products are sold in your city (not PartsPlus, Canuck Tire or one of the other chains), it's worth going and and asking what they have. They often have good but little known products like this.... http://www.myheadlight.com/ not sure how sold I am on the 'permanent' thing.... if the damage happened once to brand new plastic, it is likely to happen again, I'm thinkin'....

If your windshield is really bad, a system that uses various sanding and polishing steps is probably the way to go.

If it is not badly pitted or scratched too deeply, then I might try one of the single step systems.

Most of these links have videos or the companies have YouTube vids that show how each system is 'supposed' to work.... take them for what they are worth, personal results may or may not be exactly what they show.
