So, what about riders who are more interested in riding than about making some kind of social/demographic/political/economic/lifestyle statement?

Hmm... I seem to be a combination of 4 of those types without showing a hint of either group. Hipster and chopper I am not.

Meh, I treated my old Vulcan 500 as if it were a Ninja 500... says a lot about me doesn't it?

Pretty funny, and scary accurate too!

I'm with csspostal, I don't fit into any of those groups either. Where's the "Rides for work/fun, obeys most laws, generally outgoing but not overbearing, ATGATT but not always, hates loud pipes" category? Sign me up for that one.

Yeah, what's the category for . . .
Bike of choice:
Various, doesn't choose a bike to "fit in" a specific social group, although high % ownership of standards and similarly versatile motorcycles.
Characteristic clothing and accessories:
Generally more well-protected than the average rider, often ATGATT and/or hi viz, but not a zealot about it.

I'm very happy to not fit into any of those categories (they're a bit simple and limited anyway). I never have fit well into others' categories - ever. My husband refers to me as an "eclectic enigma". So I've got that goin' for me!!

Just ride, dammit!!

Cheers,
Loonette

none of the above, thankfully.

The "urban hipster" is getting popular around here, see tons of 50cc scooters, usually ridden by either teenagers or old people wearing absolutely no gear.

Hehe, around here most of the scooter riders are in SoHo/ lower Manhattan of NYC and are made up of the typical hipster and various girls which the only protection they have is a helmet while the older guys ride classically styled Triumphs or large touring scooters dressed in touring gear. The bad boys are on supersports and the bar brawlers cruiser around on anything V-twin. I guess the stereotypes are reinforced around here...
