I noticed recently that I have ridden more miles this past year than my first two years combined :D It's still a paltry amount compared to others, but I'm happy that it's moving in the right direction! Did anyone else experience minimal first few years before taking off later?

I think it varies for everyone, but probably more people start off slow, and as they get comfortable they stop thinking of this contraption as something that is fun, but lucky that they made it out and back home alive on. Then they start thinking of it as a vehicle that can really go places and the miles start to climb. Also if you start commuting to work on your bike you will think very differently about it too.

I can't really tell so far. It certainly seems like I'm putting on more miles than the last couple of years, but we'll see. Can't wait to actually put more than a little over 5000 miles on a single bike, in a single year.

My mileage has dropped severely since I got married; I used to ride to work, but now we take the cage during the week. :(

My first few years on the road saw some crazy miles. My first year had over 30,000. Over time that leveled closer to 20-25k. This year my mileage took a big hit. I've only put on 12,000 so far and I've been in the Jeep quite a few times a week now.

Does it have anything to do with this disgustingly hot and humid summer we've been having so far...

On a positive note Monday or Tuesday should be mid 80's which will be a welcome break. I'm planning to play hooky at work and do a WV and Skyline Drive day on the bike :D

If anyone in the DC, VA, MD area is interested in joining me shoot me a PM ...

I'm calling it a mental health day.

Not really. I have a shower at work and a case for my suits on the bike. It's mainly been all the stuff I've had to carry around and slowly moving out of my apartment into my new townhouse.

Congrats on the new house :)

Although I'm sad to report it will most likely cut into your riding time. Fix the leaky toilet and the dishwasher breaks. Fix the dishwasher and the weeds are taking over your front yard. Pull up all the weeds and notice that the exterior wood trim has missing paint spots that are starting to rot. Replace the wood and repaint and another toilet starts leaking...

I mean, congrats on your new house :)

And now that I've taken this thread off topic... Once I started commuting on the bike to take advantage of HOV the miles piled on quick ~40 miles each day. Although I don't have a shower at work, on one of the 100F days I rode into work and by noon I smelled like some fancy french cheese. Decided I love my bike but not enough to get fired so July and August has created a noticeable drop in mileage for me.

Those are some crazy miles in any vehicle! Even if I did everything with only one vehicle(work, fun, errands) I would be at about 10k miles in a year.

I did an average of 12,000 miles yearly on the Vulcan 500 and before it got totaled it was around the 40,000 mark.

The Ninja 900 is seeing a bit more mileage per week compared to the Vulcan.

It's good being single with a decent work schedule as I get more "Me" time.
