I have a xj 650 and am wondering what oil I sould run in the final drive on the rear wheel? I was wondering about Mobil 1 75W90? Is that a no no or not? What do you guys use in your shaft drive bikes?

Don't have a shaft drive bike but isn't it supposed to be Hypoid Gear oil? Is Mobil Hypoid gear oil?

Check with techs at dealer to confirm.

Mobil-1 75w90 is perfect for the final drive. I used it in my '84 NightHawk and I currently use it in my Mean Streak.

Hi, sorry for late reply.

there is a huge possibility that the oil in the rear diff was never changed since stock. I like to drain out the old oil, and throw some marvel mystery oil in the rear drive. Then I start the bike up on the center stand and pop it into gear to let the mystery oil do its thing to clean out all the old gunk while the rear wheel is spinning. After that, I drain out the mystery oil and add the new gear oil.

BE CAREFUL!!!!! If the bike is in gear and the rear wheel touches down while on the center stand you won't like the results !!!!!

Boy howdy , Ya bet !
Changed my fluids last weekend to synthetic in both the engine and the shaft .Silkolene Comp 4 20W-50 for the engine and Silkolene 80W-90 for the shaft .
Shifts so much smoother now .
