Engine Stalling

I suspect that there is a FAQ on the site that will help ... but i am too dumb to find it - feel free to point me in the right direction.
I have a Honda CLR 125 (same engine as XLR 125 ). It needs the choke on to start it and readily stalls at junctions unless I keep the revs up. I have increased the idle to combat this although I realize I am treating the symptoms not finding the cause and curing the problem. If I take the revs down just after starting it and allow it to stall, it is hard to restart (flooded?) and I have to wait a while and restart it; this is not a problem when it has been running for a bit. I think I will have to clean the carb. but what else should I check before I do this?

This could be any one of a number of problems

How cold is it where you are ?

The needle and seat could be worn

When did you last lube the choke cable and seating

When did you lat change your plug

are you using any additives in the fuel , what brand petrol ???
