1982 XJ650 & Petcock question...

#1 Unread post by rgouette »

Howdy fellas, say if I wanna replace my pesky stock petcock, do I HAVE to go with the stock vacuum operated model? ($$)
Or can I just use a single-output 'gravity' type? (less $$)
thx,

Rich

You can use a gravity feed petcock if you can find one that fits the cut-outs in your tank. Pingle makes them for many bikes as well as some 'universal' styles, but they ain't exactly cheap. Many companies make big, shiney, chrome replacements for the cruiser market. Make sure you have room under the tank to install the petcock and run a fuel line to it. You will need to plug the vacuum line from the intake to the old petcock. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. Many customs, specials, streetfighter, ect, have this modification.

Have you priced stock vs anything else? Just curious as to what it works out to be.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
