Interesting note.

I told many publications about the new 2011 BMW K1600's and how BMW had a inline 6 cylinder engine coming out in June and beginning of July, no one took it seriously. So I posted the K1600's on Total Motorcycle on July 2nd, believing this to be factual enough to do so. Today, we have the release of the official photos of it.

Total Motorcycle.com is usually ahead of the curve on most bikes, this one, we were almost 4 months ahead of everyone else!

That is sweet... but the sound of an inline six is like sex on wheels. Ever heard a Honda CBX 6?

Please BMW make a naked version of this bike, like an R1600R so the engine hangs out in the air...

Agreed it is. Even sexier than a long bang or big bang to me!

Definitely a plus 1 on the naked version. Gorgeous!

I don't think it will sound anything as intoxicating as the CBX. One thing about BMW, they have never made an engine that sounds really good. The closest they ever came was probably the K75 Triple. And some of the race tuned airheads from the 1950s and the 1960s didn't sound too bad either.

Mike, I hate to nit-pick, but I recently stopped by the local BMW shop here in town and asked about the naming of their motorcycles. Apparently, if it starts with a K it's an inline engine, the R is for the boxer engines. F is for the parallel twins and G is for the thumpers. He started getting into the ending letters and what they designate, but I was happy enough with the engine thing to not remember all the other stuff...plus it's fairly easy to tell what the last two letters mean just by looking at the bikes.

The only reason I mention is I figure I can't be the only guy that was racking his brain trying to figure this out for a while before I finally broke down and asked.

And yeah, I think a K1600R would be absolutely a blast to ride for a little while but I know I'd get in a lot of trouble if I rode it around very much at all.

This is super geeky, but the thing that really impressed me the most about those bikes was the optional adaptive headlamp that follows a curved road (even while the bike's leaned). I hope that option will trickle down to the rest of their models.

In this month's Cycle World, they really liked that feature. The bike also got excellent reviews, but at a price of $25K, it should and then some. Imagine what Kawasaki could do with the ZX-14 if they charged that kind of money!

Makes me wonder if they'll give up their inline four in all the other K bikes and completely replace it with the 6 (except for their sportbike, maybe).
