Ok, had the big crash, now what to get with the big check?

Hello all, sorry for not checking in, but hey, it's summertime, and I'm sure you all would understand. So I dropped my pride and joy 2002 Intercepter during a 40ish right hand turn, where I hit a low spot filled with sand. "thanks Minnesota DOT" After picking up the pieces, and being able to get up and walk away becouse od my helmet and riding equipment, I'm now without. So anyone who owns a FJR 1300, A Honda st1200/1300, A ZZR1200, or a trimph ST, please chime in, and let me know what you think of it. Heck, if your looking to sell one of these, let me know! Also, is there anything in this area that I'm missing. All your help and comments would really be a lot of help! Steve Sobon

Don't forget the BMW R1200ST. A friend of mine just got one and although I didn't think much of it before. Now I starting to get used to the looks and the bike has a lot of nice features. Take a look. I think the BMW and the Triumph are the lightest of the bikes you mentioned. Good luch on your search, let us know what you decide to get.

Kudos to you for being geared up. What part of you hit the ground? Do you think it would have been more severe if you hadn't had your gear on?

Those are all very capable sport-touring mounts...
I guess it all depends on what you want. I'm guessing coming from a Viffer, you want more power?
The New Triumph ST is at the top of my list.
- Pros: It's one sweet bike.
- Cons: few dealers and what few there are most of them suck.
FJR
- Pros: Great power, great looks even with the bags off.
- Cons: Tick of death still unsolved by Yamaha, that BS pre-order program but you can find them in stock in some places.
Honda ST1300
- Pros: Get the newer model, you want the electric windshield. It's a Honda
- Cons: a few recalls to deal with. Ugly as Sin without the bags, looks like a mini-Wing.
Kawi ZZR
- Pros: Fastest of the bunch. Cheepest of the bunch, going to be in stock.
- Cons: Worst Ergos of the bunch. It's _still_ carburated but then again that aint soo bad. Somewhat dated.
These are just the tips of the iceburg, the Beemer for me is well, a beemer, coming from the Viffer you won't like the way it handles, nor it's lack of power. But it's a Beemer and a fabulous bike! Pricey too though.
Another option is the CBR/XX they don't sell them new in the states anymore, but there are dealers that have new 02's and 03's still in stock and it's by far the smoothest of any of the above. One hell-of-a-machine, and you might find a great deal.
So I've probably given you more to think about than answered any questions.

As new moderator of the Triumph users group, let me say that the ST is the unquestionable best choice.

It's definatly on my short list for my next bike but dealer support (or lack thereof) means a lot.
If your lucky enough to have a good dealer around (and I'm not) closes one is 40 miles away and they pretty much suck.
That and it seems they are running short on the sweet BLUE color.

First off, I would still be in the hospital instead of new bike shopping, if not for my helmet and gear. It would have been a longer day for sure without my helmet!
As for the new bike picks, I would be much more receptive to buying a trimph, but as a few posters have stated, the dealer network here is crap. Same with a BMW, although a 1200s would be wonderful! "although a bit pricey." Here's a though, maby a bandit 1200s with hard bags. I'm probbaly not going to go that route, but the ability to pick up one for very littly money had me thinking......
Still open to suggestions, and if you live in minnesota, and have a bike for sale, let me know! thanks again

Glad to hear your OK after the tumble, road conditions sometimes really suck and we have to be extra cautious when riding. It's a good thing you weren't riding this baby when you went down...
If you're looking for a BMW, try looking for a dealer in your neighbourhood with the dealer locator...
