New Rider from Canada

#1 Unread post by hakx »

Hey all. Haven't rode in years, back just getting back into. I am a Canadian Solider from Canada, and looking to restore a 1985 Ninja 600R as a winter project. I have lots of time, but that bodes well, as finding parts if not fun. Anything OEM locally is big $$, and Ebay has been my savoir. Hopefully you good folks can give me a step up when I ask what may seem like the stupid rookie questions.

Cool. There are a few of us Albertans on here. Hopefully you get that old Ninja back in to shape. I used to have a buddy that bought one brand new and it was a pretty revolutionary bike at the time. What all are you missing?

I knew the lineage of the bike, and one owner spent ALL the money on restore and paint. He sold it to a lady (which I bought from for a song) who did ZERo maintainance one it - let it set in the sun unriden for two seasons. All the handcontrols / ignition were sun faded and begining to fail (I have since replaced them) main connectors corroded, she had dropped it once, but I had that repaired. The oil, hadn't been changed and the air filter was a mystery to her. The carbs are gunked, so it labors when idliing and low end torque, but when you hit the 100 km/h mark - it takes off like a startled spider monkey. I'll post pics as the restore...and finances...allow. It runs and is registered. Rode it last summer, but no big trips until I am satisifed with its servicability.

Welcome from an ex-Canadian soldier, also from Canada. Southwestern Ontario, to be exact.
