Ural questions...

#1 Unread post by waterbuffalo750 »

hey Gummiente, I noticed you have a Ural... is it 2WD? If so, how does it handle in the winter? I live in MN, and was considering getting a 2WD Ural for my winter vehicle.
Anyone else feel free to give input as well....

I really think it'd be fine. It's no colder than a snowmobile....

Mine is the 1WD Tourist, I've installed a knobby Duro tire on the rear for better traction in the winter and on mud trails in the summer. The 2WD feature works well, from what I've heard from other owners, but really all it does is allow you to go further into the wilderness before getting stuck.

My rig can handle up to 15cm of fresh snow before things start getting a little dicey. The sidecar third wheel gives added stability in all situations and it is much like driving an ATV in regards to technique. There's all kinds of owners forums you can browse to get a better idea of what it's like to own one of these Russian beauties, I recommend CURD, Russian Iron and the factory's own forum, IMZ Web Board. You'll need to register in order to view all content on each site, but they're all free to join and you don't need to be an owner.
