Protective gear review

Hi Folks,

I am in the process of buying my gear before I go to my local MSF course. I am a newbie and I want to get this right the first time. I have not yet bought a motorcycle, and will likely not until I finish the course.

Anyway.. I have decided to purchase a textile jacket over a leather jacket and a pair of boots that I can get away wearing with Khakis. I have found the Joe Rocket Ballistic 4.0 jacket and Orbit boots to be the "style" I want, but I don't know much about the actual functionality/safety of the gear. It's more important to be safe/comfortable than look cool, so I was hoping that someone could either provide me with first hand reviews of the jacket and boots, or point me to a website that does it as well.

Thanks for the help!!

For the MSF, you'll be riding at slow enough speeds that having the 'serious' protection isn't as important just yet... ESPECIALLY if you're taking the class in summer heat. Have a long sleeve t-shirt underneath that jacket (if you spring for one) in case you can't bear it any longer.

Most of us upgrade from our first gear purchases anyhow, as we refine our riding styles and know more about our needs. . . pockets HERE, no velcro HERE, THIS long or THAT long, MESH panels, NO mesh panels, back armor, etc.

The most important thing to get now, is your HELMET and a pair of decent gloves (the 'loaner' gloves can get really slimy).

That's good advice from the Lion-Lady. I wouldn't spend the real big money yet as you are quite likely to develop new preferences after you've been riding a while.
