Engine dying w/ Clutch Out

#1 Unread post by ceadmin »

I have a '99 Kaw Vulcan 800. I had my brother riding it around about a month ago just fine for a few hours (we had unseasonally warm weather). I tried riding it yesterday (warm temps here we come) however I am running into a problem. The bike started and warmed up fine, at least I think so, but when I went to put it into gear and release the clutch it immediately dies no matter how high I rev it or how slowly/quicly I start releasing the clutch, it kills the engine immediately. It restarts with no problem. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Kick stand sensor

Check your kick stand sensor if it's unplugged then there is your problem.

If it's still plugged in then the sensor might be gone.

The sensor shuts the bike down if you try to take off when the kick stand is down.

you can bypass the sensor by jumping the two wires before the sensor with a piece of wire connecting the two leads together.

doing so will allow the bike to be put into gear with the kick stand down so always check it so you won't have an accident.

good luck and get out ridding!

Thats what it was. Twisted the wires together, and BAM! away I went. Thanks for your help.

wow...what lame saftey feature will they come up with next, i mean it was a good IDEA but eventually all of these safety features will make future riders less aware of their bike and more careless...just my .02 sorry for the rant.

I've forgotten to put my sidestand up on a few occasions. once on my SS16k ride - while I was backing out of a parking stall ready to head out after grabbing a snack and a hot chocolate, I wondered what was scraping and dragging the bike - oops.

I've also forgotten to put it up when filling up for gas. It's a bit of a shock when you drop the bike off the centrestand and it comes down hard on the sidestand; it's almost pitched me over a couple times.

My sidestand cutoff switch was already disabled when I got the bike, but I always make sure the bike is in neutral when I start it, and I'm in the habit of double checking the sidestand before I drop it into first.
