Friend's gs500e - overheating and leaking gas

My friend's bike has been overheating lately and we are in the middle of an oil change right now. We took out the drain plug and the oil came gushing out, almost like water, not thick like oil should be. It smelled a bit like gas to me as well. It was maybe at 100* tops for oil temperature that came leaking out cause I could stick my finger in it and it only felt slightly warm. Is it possible for gas to have somehow leaked into the crankcase and thinned up the oil to where it would lose all its lubrication qualities?
He says after it sits for a while it's hard to start like it's flooded. I was thinking his petcock isn't really working like it should be, flooding the carbs which then leak gas into the cylinder of whichever valve is open which then slowly goes into the crankcase. Any ideas on what to check? Thanks.
