looking at getting new bike
had 1982 900f super sport
sold in 1990
last time I rode now looking for new bike and wondering what the insurance will be like
friends telling me that it's like starting over as a new rider if not insured for awhile
like the gsxr's and hayabusa and need bigger bike as I am a bit taller than average
any suggestions
other than having legs shortened

Umm just so you know your 900F had less horsepower and torque than a modern 600 does.

As for bigger bikes... What are you looking for? A sportbike? Another warning, sportbikes of today are nothing (ergonomically speaking) like that 900F you had.

If you're looking for a bike that will be comfortable, check out a Yamaha FZ6. Same amount of horsepower, more torque, and about the same or less weight than you had on the CB900F you last rode, plus is very comfortable to ride all day long, and will still keep up in the twisty bits.

As for insurance, yes it will be like you're a new rider again, because of a few reasons.
1. It's been 21 years since you were last on a motorcycle regularly, you do not have the skills you did back then.
2. It's been 21 years since you were that young, your reactions have slowed down considerably.
3. It's been 21 years of advances in motorcycle technology, they're a lot faster, better handling, etc today.

On the bright side I'm sure insurance will be less since you are an older (not meant sarcastically or as an insult) rider. Insurance for me (24 years old, 2 speeding tickets, motorcycle mechanic) on a Hayabusa was 1000/year when I last checked it. That is the cheapest I could find. Others said up to 1200/6 months, and some said no altogether. Keep in mind this is in the US where insurance is apparently a lot cheaper than in Canada, but I am 24 with a spotty driving record.

I think taking a MSF safety class will help both with insurance and with regaining those skills. I take one about every 5 years.
