Father's Day

Before you all panic it is Father's Day here in UK
Been thinking of my late father today, & came to the awesome realisation that this year I will have lived exactly half my life without him!
He was an engineer having left school at 13 to help out the family budget. His parents couldn't afford the uniform for Grammar School.
He completed his apprenticeships as Cartwright, Millwright & Mechanical Engineer, + served in REME for 2 years (45-47).
He was a stern father but had a great sense iof humour & loved political arguement.
He served as a Union Shop Steward & although
Virtally self educated rose to senior management in an defence orientated international company.
So if you feel inclined raise a glass to Billy

I tried in vain to locate a couple of old photos which show him on army motorcycles. When I do find them I will post them at a later date.

Forgot to mention that Dad was also childhood sweetheart to my late Mum, they grew up in neighbouring villages (Lanarkshire).
He was also a keen golfer (handicap about
, & a fly fisherman. As a child I spent many a winter evening at the dining table tying flies alongside him.
To this day I am very fussy about fish.........having been spoilt from a young age with fresh river salmon & brown trout.
No more nostalgia folks, but hoping you don't mind me sharing these thoughts.

Lost both my parents in 1984, not a day goes by that I'm not thinking of or reminded about them in some way. So reading about your father reminds me about mine and that's a good thing.

Awww look at you two... you're bringing a tear to my eye!
I still have both of my parents and lost my first Grandparent this year. I am grateful to have long living genes in the family so I haven't had to deal with family death until March.
However, yesterday I did feel very nostalgaic and decided to send my Dad a sappy "across the miles" ecard instead of a joke one that I would normally do (he's a pretty funny guy so loves the jokes). He was so touched he called us immediately after opening it when he only had 10 mins before heading out the door!
