I'm just sending good vibes to those on east coast that they may all stay safe during the upcoming hurricane that is predicted to hit.

I was reading that many people have been asked to evacuate some places.

Let's hope Irene runs out of power before it gets to you.

It's a slow storm, the eye just now crossed the NC-VA border; it's got hours to go before it gets here. I'm 40 miles back from the coast, so not in any real danger here, just the potential of inconvenience. The area is soaked already, we're going to get inches more of rain plus wind, so trees will come down and power will go out. Cape May county, at the southeastern tip of NJ, was evacuated Thursday. It's all low-lying, and has water on two sides, ocean on the east and Delaware Bay on the west. My stepdaughter's Guard unit was called in at 3:00 today.

I hate power outtages (there's nothing to do!!) got to make it a point to buy a generator and have the necessary cutout switches installed in the next year.

While typing, the phone rang, and its the emergency information system from the township - we're to stay off the roads starting 11pm tonight. Also, stay out of the old village of Lumberton - Rancocas Creek goes through there, and it will flood for sure.

I have 4 inches of water in my garage. When the neighbors put in a new septic system they raised their yard almost a foot and filled in what used to be a drainage ditch from the road to a real ditch in the back yard 75 yards back.. Now everything goes through my driveway. I keep everything up off the floor for this reason so no damage. My whole yard is covered with a few inches of water but that happens in heavy thunder storms too. I went over everything making sure no loose siding or shingles ect so i should be good for the wind. If the wind gets too wild then ill have a couple families from a local trailer park taking refuge in my house..

Can you make a culvert under your driveway?

Except for flooding, it turned out being a non-event. Oh, and a 20-hour power outtage.

Better to have been prepared for the worst though.......

I just got my internet back last night. We had more wind from the backside of the storm than the front it seemed. We had a good bit of flooding and there are roads washed out and a couple bridges gone around me. I haven't ventured out yet to see whats happened further than walking distance of a few miles, Ill probably go for a ride later today. Mid day yesterday the main rode was more than half covered with water deep enough they were not letting traffic through. Other than waiting for water to go away no damage on my property.

If the neighbors filled in a swale or drainage ditch that causes water to pool on your property, they are responsible for it. They can/should be forced to replace that feature which was probably put there intentionally by the original developers of the site...
