After looking at those pics, I literally hurt everywhere. Road rash takes months to heal. Ow ow ow.

Dude, those are just gross. Good reminder of why you should wear gear though.

It's been mid 90's and humid for almost the past 2 weeks here and everytime I ride my bike to work I get at least one co-worker who makes a smart a$$ remark to me for wearing my leather jacket in the heat. Wish I had these pictures readily available to show them why I suffer through the stop signs and lights in a leather jacket during this heat. A couple minutes of discomfort from being hot in the gear is so much better than a few months of painful recovery.

You know, they've been doing trials in using maggots in medicine again, which are being used to treat these kinds of injuries... Maybe if they prove as good as they seem, you'll have extra incentive to gear up, and not suffer these types of injuries... I'l try and find a link to the old news story

The other day a local at some small town truck stop at an I-70 exit saw me coming out of the men's room in my Joe rocket jacket (I admit, it's pretty loud. He might have heard me!). He had to give me his " It ain't that cold out there...you don't need that thing!" I simply repied..."It will be in a minute!" It was 94 degrees out, and at 70-80 mph...I was right. Once you sweat just a little, the moving air really cools you well. I admit, I ride short distances on back streets (to church, for example) in less gear if it's that hot. I also spent years on a road racing bike and accept the risk of a low speed crash (which I have experienced, painfully). I won't go on a Joyride, without gear, though. Just not enough joy without a little speed, and more speed=less skin in a crash. Thanks, John. You've got me thinking about the short trips again. Might just gear up, even in this heat wave.

The whole idea is that maggots will only eat rotting or septic flesh. The stuff that needs to be cut out no matter what. So if they only eat the bad stuff then they can be a LOT more selective then a scalpel ever could. After they stop eating and begin to gestate they are removed and new ones are added. This continues until all the dieing flesh is gone. At which point you'll be stitched back up.

You can feel the maggots moving around inside the wound.

That's a weird feeling thought...BTW, just got back from a short trip...full gear...Temp? 103 degrees F. No maggots for me (well maybe in a bowl).
