Hello, I am new member to the site. I should have joined a year ago. Here is my situation..
I bought my honda magna from a guy that had crashed it and left it sitting out going to waste. I brought it back to life, it now runs like a champ! A few weeks ago i decided that changing the chain and sprockets would be a good idea, so i ordered a kit off ebay (race driven). When i pulled off the original front sprocket i noticed that it had a thick rubber around the outside edge. The new one did not have it, but i put it on anyway and hit the road. A few days later while driving down the road the inside of the cover is shredded by the sprocket. Ive been all over the net, and to several bike shops, with no help. I tightened the chain, it has exactly 17mm of slack, but i still hear it grinding and clinking around while im driving. If someone else has had this issue, or has a sloution please let me know.

The thick rubber is for damping effect and most aftermarket sprockets do not have them.

How many teeth does the new front sprocket have?

The new sprocket is a 15T. Also it appears that i only hear the grinding sound when im riding down the road in gear and let off the gas....

15T FRONT SPROCKET

44T REAR SPROCKET

530 X 108L O RING CHAIN
Is it possible for the sprocket to be moving so far laterally that it hits the cover?
I also suspect the noise might be the chain....it was a bit beefier than the one i took off.

Is that that stock size? How many teeth did the old countershaft sprocket have?

If the chain and both sprockets are the original size, the chain is adjusted correctly with no binding etc I can't imagine why the chain would be hitting the countershaft sprocket cover. Is the cover installed correctly and is the cover the stock cover? Is the cover deformed or bent? I assume the reason it didn't hit before was because the sprockets was worn to the point where there was more clearance. Can you post a pic?
