Hi everyone, i am new here, so I am not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes...I have had a 125 varadero for 2 years now and i am wanting something with more power to it - I want something that is going to be cheap on the insurance and is not a bad price second hand. My only concern is the insurance - I am 19, had 2 years experience and 2 years NCB's. I was thinking about the Honda CB600 Hornet as my mum has the 900 version and I like it (£1200 on the insurance), but I would also like a bike with a fairing rather than naked. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Honda makes a faired version of the Hornet that's availible in the UK. However it isn't really a full fairing, it's more like an extended windshield. If you're wanting upright seating that's sort of what you're stuck with. Otherwise it starts turning into "hump the tank" sportbikes. They have their place, but I wouldn't want one for normal street riding. I've got an 04 hornet 600 in fact. There's a link to my experiences with it in my sig. I'm loving the hell out of it.

Haven't a clue about the insurance for you, but some 600 class bikes w/ fairings = Yamaha FZ6s, Suzuki Bandit 600, Kawasaki Z750s


They are all pretty powerful, good handling bikes. Not exactly beginner level, so be careful. Lot's of mid-late 90's used bikes to be had, in excellent condition, and because of a few years age they should be a little easier on the insurance.

For accurate insurance information you'll have to just call up local insuance agents and ask them. There are too many differing factors that can alter insurance rates - there's just no way for us to tell you. While the type of bike you own has some influence on the rates, other factors that may affect the rates more than the type of bike you have are your age and driving record. Anyway... give them a call - they should be able to give you a clear answer. Good luck, and enjoy your new ride when it comes your way.

Absolutley. Geographical location plays a factor, too. But the type of bike and engine displacement is probably the second biggest factor, right behind age/record as you say. I believe most insurance companies base rates for bikes on how they are classed and the engine displacement. Naturally, sportbikes will cost more to insure than cruisers. That's one reason why some of the standards are real steals... many are sportbike motors and suspension but are not considered sports, thus insurance is much less but you still get an awesome performing ride.

I'm a good boy, I am, lol. The area isn't too bad here and I am 19 as I say. I fully intend enjoying the bike when it comes my way - I think it will be the hornet 600 as, although not faired, I like it (mum lets me drive her 900 version as I wazs going to HAVE (not buy) that off her, but insurance was £1200...£900 for the 600 version. P.s. I will check the bikes that V4underme mentioned and see what they come up like on the insurance. Whilst I am here, is it true that you get a better quote if you ring instead of do an online quote.

Hi everyone, just thoguth I would tell you all that i decided that the insurance was too high on a 600cc, so i have now gone for a GS500 F - getting it in 7 days - can't wait is the understatement of the year!!!

So will you change your name to GS_Guy???
