my mechanic told me i should do it at between 14K-16K miles.

im about 13.8K miles now.

does this sound right?

also, i got my pilot powers 2ct installed today (front) as well as new rear brake pads. wish i could have matching tires but my rear pirelli diablo is still pretty new. and not that it matters much right now but, i just have to remember i have a lesser performance tire on the rear. i used to have a pair of corsa IIIs.

If major workup means checking valve clearances, it should go by whatever the owner's manual says.

Yup, around 15K is the usual recommendation. In all probability, unless you've been above 7K for most of it's life it won't need much adjustment, but it's definitely good to get in there and check things out before they start to go awry.

Oh and have you ridden on the 2CTs before? I've got them on the Z, and honestly I'm not liking them much, they feel really squirrelly to me, especially when it's under 40 degrees out.

2ct is what I've rode on my zx6 for years, it's a good tire, but like wrider says if it's cooler out it slips like any performance tire. With the softer rubber on the sides, I've noticed its best to avoid excessive and prolonged highway riding, it wears the tire unevenly as opposed to the stock Bridgestones.

For what it's worth, under 40 and they definitely get a little squirrelly under engine braking. But once I adjusted my suspension I'm loving the 2CTs. My chicken strips are at approximately 1/8th of an inch, so I'm definitely using them. I've been quite hard on the poor things (I hang out with lots of fast cars and bikes, as in I'm one of the slowest vehicles, so I have to work to keep up), and I'm about 1/8th inch away from the wear bar in the middle, at 4000 miles. It's looking very likely that I'll hit the wear bar right at or just after 5000 miles on the tires.

I also plugged my tire when I had less than 500 miles on the thing, with a general automotive cord-type plug from Walmart, and it's held fine, up to the triple digit speeds I've hit on closed courses in Mexico.
