97 vtx600 carb air hoses.

#1 Unread post by egs2265 »

Hey guys, this is my first time posting here so be gentle with me. I just picked up a 1997 Honda Shadow VTX Deluxe for $1500.00. Seller said it had been sitting for 2 months and wouldn't start. Took it to a cycle shop that said it had rust in the tank and need a carb rebuild and wanted $1000.00 to fix. I got the bike back (couldnt afford that) and they gave me the carbs back apart in a bag. I cleaned it out and put it back together but I can't figure out the air hoses. There are 2 that come off the sub filter, but I have a total of 3 hoses to connect. Did the shop not give me back all my parts or am I just missing something? Any help will be appreciated, any diagrams will make you god-like in my eyes. I know there is supposed to be one inside the side cover, but there isn't one. Thanks.

Here ya go
For your VT600 (X is for the 1300 and 1800 lol).
There are 2 options on that bike that are shown. The first is the part number 3, which is for bikes in every state but California, the second is for part number 2, which is California models.
On the California model, the hoses go to both of the brass nipples on the carbs, are joined by the T, and I'm assuming it's like every other bike in that the third hose wanders off to the charcoal canister.
On the 49 state bikes, again they go to both of the brass nipples, and there should be a hose coming from the airbox that goes into the T.
Hope this helps! Haven't worked on one of these so I'm just going off of diagrams and previous knowledge.

Thanks for the help. My bike is not the California model. I didn't get a T fitting back from the shop, hell they didn't give my seat back , till my wife noticed it wasn't there. I ordered some replacement parts and I'm just waiting for them to come in to start putting it back together.

Yeesh, sounds like the tech needs to learn how to be organized. Go back and demand your parts. I've been a motorcycle mechanic, you keep all of the parts together, in the same container, even if only for your own sanity!
