Hello Scooter Fans

#1 Unread post by Grendel_Sprite »

Howdy all! I've been lurking for far too long now, so it's high time I introduced myself.

I'm one of those guys that grew up around motorcycles, but I've never learned to ride or had one myself. My dad always had at least one in the garage. It was a pretty constant stream of Harleys and Hondas in various states of repair. I just never really wanted to ride...

Until now. Like alot of other guys, I've been bit hard by the riding bug in my mid-life, but not in the usual way. You see, my wife and I were walking around downtown the other day and we noticed that a new dealership had opened up around the corner. They sell Vespa scooters. So we decided to go in and have a look. The deal was done the minute I sat on one. These are not your grandpa's scooters. They are thoroughly modern, comfortable and get as large as 500cc! Perfect for my 20 mile back-road commute.

My wife and I will both get one, but not right away. I'm the kind of person who hates to finance anything, so we have to save up for them. It will take about six months or so. In the mean time, we will both "gear-up" and take the MSF course, from what I've read the most important "gear" of all!

But enough about me. I want to give a big-time thanks to everyone here for the informative and entertaining discussions. I've learned alot from you guys already. Hopefully I can return the favor.

Not a scooter guy myself. But all on two wheels, or who wish they were, are welcome. I applaud you for saving for the bike first - that attitude seems to be all but dead in the US. Most folks are like, 'I wonder if they'll finance that for me?"

Grendel,

Scooter, dirtbike, cruiser, supersport - if it has two sheels, you're welcome here! (As long as I get to come test-ride your new Vespa! ) j/k.

You are making a wise choice by taking the MSF course. You and your wife will thoroughly enjoy the riding experience, and you have some of the finest roads for riding anywhere in the world where you live.

Keep us posted on your progress! 8)

Welcome aboard! It's nice that you and your wife have found something that you'll both enjoy. Some of my best rides are the ones I take with my husband. And, according to your avatar, you live in an area where there will be lots of good riding weather for you. Have fun with the MSF course, and enjoy the forums.

Cheers,
Loonette

Scooters are great. I'm all for anything that gets great gas mileage and puts the wind in your face. i wish the whole country (those physically able anyway) would commute on 2 wheels. whatever they may be.
