I've been reading up on old brit bikes because I love the looks of them and this darn word keeps poping up. I have not been able to decipher it meaning yet.
As far as I've found it means older bike but what distingushes them from unit production bikes?
thanks

Pre-unit Triumphs had a seperate transmission in it's own case. Not in the engine case .

Zigactly. My brother has a '59 BSA A50 that is pre-unit, it's a real hassle to adjust the primary chain because the entire gearbox has to be moved. My '71 BSA A65 was unit construction, the routine maintenance was easier but just as frequent. And they both had total loss lubrication systems.
