Pesky Deer

Yesterday went for a ride with a buddy. While going through a small town at the speed limit, 60km (approx 36mph) two deer ran across the road from the left ditch. They were a doe and fawn. Missed the doe but the fawn hit my leg. As I brought the bike to a stop I could see my left side case bouncing and the deer sliding, down the road in my mirror.
I had not seen the deer until it was on the road, just about to enter my lane. I had just enough time to grab some brake and think, oh S*&T, before impact. My impression initially was that I had hit the doe, as I had not seen the fawn. The other rider, who had been behind me, saw the whole thing. The doe and fawn had leaped out of the marsh and started across the road. The doe in the lead and the fawn just behind. The doe just cleared the front of my bike and the fawn hit me and the left side case.
The force of the impact was such that the locking clasp on the side case was broken off and the case had several fractures, although they may have been caused as it bounced down the road. The fawn got up and joined its mother and took of into the bush without any signs of injury.
I was able to reatach the clasp and carried on to complete the ride.
All in all, got off lucky
