Looking for another bike. BMW?

12 hours without a motorcycle, and already having withdrawals. Thinking of buying a used BMW K1200 LT. Can any of you offer advice or commentary on these?

Sapaul has had a couple different BMW's and iirc, he liked them. If I were in the market for that kind of bike, it'd definitely be on my list of bikes to check out.

What can I tell you

The LT is one of the most sophisticated of the super tourers. The mil is superb, super smooth, very responsive and damn reliable. The handling on the bike is typical of the super tourer type and after he first 5 mins, you forget how big this bike is. Plenty of low down grunt, but hardly ever used as it is smooth right through the pull through. Gear changing is not like many of the clunky boxes that BM have pushed out and the ratios are good enough for wheelies if you are that way inclined. A mate of mine impressed the hell out of guys when the got that front wheel up.

As a tourer all the features are there. Really good protection from the wind, in house music, separate controls for the rear and a couch on the back I would be happy to have in my lounge. Long distance capability that will any Harley looking lost and easily comparable with the Wing.

Slow speed stuff needs some care when you first get the bike as for some reason people tend not to want to rev and use back brake on such a big bike, I am only 5'7 and never had a problem. High speed cornering has to be seen to be believed, this bike leans far more than expected. Lots and lots of luggage space and cubby holes. Rated by me as AWSOME for the ride characteristics, COOL for looks and BLOODY GREAT for luggage. PRE OWNED COULD PROBABLY NET YOU A REAL BARGAIN.

dablade... I gots a BMW ... an R1200R 2008and it's naked. I got my bike at 57, three years ago and it is very sweet. A R1200RT weighs about 560 wet...which is a faried bike. The R bikes have the traditional BMW motor. The K bikes have a inline 4 and have been called top heavy ...but several models from different manufactures have been called top heavy. Just have to ride that K1300LT and see.

Also Max BMW has a large selection of used bikes.

I'm just plain thick... so how do you like your R1200R. It is my first bike and I can not compare it to another bike. But I really like the handling and power. The R has weight ratio to torque and horsepower that you find with corvettes and the like. Also most bikes have those kinds of numbers and better. Switch backs are fun but at 500 pounds it can't compare with a Monster from Ducati.
