If you have to put the qualifier in, you know you're going to offend. Then maybe it's not an appropriate joke??? No Offence... :o)

Hahahaha!!!

Mike's sitting beside me and he isn't quite sure about this one and I see that Dr.Bar isn't that sold on it either. But truthfully, I find it hilarious! It's one of those with a completely unexpected and over-the-top punchlines.

No offense taken here!

I'm not offended at all, and I understand why the joke is funny. But it does remind me that in North America, scooters are associated with being less masculine or something, and I find that interesting. In a lot of places outside NA, scooter ownership is associated with being young, hip, and urbane (well, depends on the scooter too). Parallel evolution of bike cultures, I guess.

PS, sorry for overanalyzing.

FWIW here in NA, if it's an actual Vespa, a Zuma, or a Ruckus, it's got street cred so to speak. A Japanese scooter tends to be respected as transportation in town or for women, but the Korean or Chinese scooters are (in my experience) utter crap.

Not sold??? I have two gay nephews, I work with hundreds of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transsexuals, transgendered, the list goes on... I actually find it not funny and offensive, I fight for the rights of my workmates on a daily basis, didn't think I'd have to do it here as well... :o(

Well if I may

in 2006, when Marshalling in SA was in it's infancy, I got a call from an event organiser that we were just starting to work with. She said to me that could our Marshals assist with a charity event. I asked what and she replied that this was the SA Gay pride march. I replied, "are you having a laugh, you want me to ask a bunch of hairy arsed bikers to Marshal a gay pride march, you really need to give me one good reason. Well she said, last year there was a lot of protest groups, that threw anything from eggs and flour to condoms filled with wee wee and there was a big potential for violence including a few scuffles. I really need your bad rep.

It was at this point that it went from tongue in cheek funny to serious. I called a meeting with the Marshals, at that time there was only a dozen of us, and it was unanimous, this event we are definitely doing. 12 of us went out and Marshalled around 5000 people. The protest groups that did turn up quietly crept away

This year will be event number 7, last year the numbers had grown to over 20 000 people and we put 50 Marshals on the road

here is a link to last years pride pics http://forum.thinkbike.co.za/showthread ... pride+pics

So 2 things here, as South Africans, we take the "pee" out of everything and laugh at ourselves very easily,

secondly there is a time and place to take your duties seriously, and we do that too, so I think I am qualified to make a comment.

The joke is KAK funny.

Well, it goes along with the plans of a young lady I know. She wants to start a gang of lesbians on Vespas :) She has a great name for it, but I can't recall it at the moment.

Kind laughed, I'll admit. But I could see how that could offend.
