Process to bring in motorcycle to Texas from another state?

Hi all,
As there seem to be not many standard motorcycles here in Texas (I have no clue as to why) I am looking at buying a motorcycle in another state and registering it in Texas. In Canada it's pretty simple to do so, but I have no idea what is involved to do that in the USA...
I am looking at a bike about 600 miles away in the next state so I could ride it back home (I think anyways if the law lets me).
Is it worth even doing?

I'll post that info below for anyone looking like I did.
a Texas resident who purchased a vehicle out-of-state
If you are a Texas resident and purchased a vehicle in another state, you are required to do the following within 30 days of bringing the vehicle to Texas:
•Get a vehicle inspection
•Register and title the vehicle
The vehicle must pass inspection before it can be registered and titled. After having it inspected, take the following to your county tax office:
•inspection certification,
•proof of liability insurance,
•the vehicle's odometer reading if it is less than 10 years old,
•an original out-of-state title, proof of registration, proof of sales tax payment or current foreign/military ownership document,
•completed Form VTR 130-U, and
•the following fees: ◦registration fee,
◦title application fee of $28 or $33, depending on the county, and
◦6.25% vehicle sales tax
I did find that website but not that information, it will be quite handy. I guess if the plate is still on the bike (or I use Andrea's plate which I'm insured for) I can then call our insurance company and ask if I could ride it down...

Be careful about that. Don't know about Texas, but word is in NJ they come down harder on using the wrong plate than no plate at all.

Same in NYS. You are using an unregistered vehicle.
Check out your state's temporary vehicle registration rules.
You may be able to temp. register it before picking it up.
I know in some states you can get a transport temp.
license.

Agreed with jstark and pchast, here in CO they definitely come down harder.
I know in a lot of places if you are riding it home from the point of purchase you can ride it with no license plate at all as long as you can produce a title or bill of sale and are on your way home (or to the DMV).
