I've got a 96 yamaha virago 1100. I love the bike... Not sure about the color though. I'ts teal and cream. Kind of oldmannish "sorry to all the old fellers out there". Alot of people like, and alot of people don't... I'm on the fence. In a way its kind of a cool retro color, but on the other side. "Teal and cream???!!!???" If I do paint, is it cheaper to do it myself, or take it to someone???

OLd man-ish? Come on. I qualify as old and I got no liking for teal and cream. Hmmmm Maybe I'm not so old after all.

As for should you take it to a shop or do it yourself? You must be very young. Take it to a shop for an ESTIMATE............ then you can answer that question for yourself. IT won't be hard. You might even get to like the teal and cream.

There is a good thread under rattlecan clearcoat inthe general maintainence section. Lotsa good advice. It is definitely cheaper to paint yourself but takes a little work, care and planning to get an excellent result, and I mean excellent! I found it doesn't take alot of time either.

You might decide that it is too much to tackle all by yourself and have someone do it for you. I think if you have the time and love for your bike it'll give you a stronger connection with it if you do the painting yourself. Pride in your work and ride. You can tell you friends when they admire your bike "I painted it."

Pick a color you like not what people tell you is cool.
