What is the deal?? It WAS running!! Not now though. . .

So I have a 1980 Honda CM200t. When I bought it, it was running. When I got it home, it was not.

So! I drained the gas, got new spark plugs, and it fired right up! Except it would only work with the choke open. When I would close the choke, the bike would die. Even after it was warmed up for 15 minutes, it still would only run with the choke open. So I left it over night, it got dark.

The next morning I was going to adjust the idle screw, but it wouldn't start. . . again.

So I removed the carb and took it in to a bike shop and they cleaned it all out for me. I brought it home, re-installed it, and it still won't start.

The bike has lots of compression, strong spark, and fuel IS getting to the carb.

Will I need a SECOND new set of plugs since the old(new) ones fouled??

Any help would be so great!! Also, I just thought of something while i was writing this. Is it possible to put the slide in backwards in the carb?? Like 180 degrees backwards kind of thing??

And Hello!!! I'm new here! I'm from Canada. I've got two bikes now, neither of them are running. The other bike is a big project I'm not quite ready to tackle! I'm looking forward to using this forums resources and if possible, adding some of my own input! Thanks!!

Sounds to me like the pilot jet was plugged, so when you kept it on choke it probably fouled out the plugs. If you put in a new set of plugs, let it warm up for about a minute or two, then turn the choke back off.

And yes I vote put in a new set of plugs.

Ya I figured I'd have to get new plugs to replace my 28 minute old plugs!! It's all good. I'll get them in the am, and see what happens.

Thanks!!

Ascot VT500...very cool bike. Do you have a manual for your bike?

I have a manual for the Ascot, but not the Twinstar. And thanks!! It's pretty sweet.

Edit: what about the slide? Will it go in both ways? I know it will only work one way, but will it fit in both ways?

Well, just give myself the best odds possible, I spent the $8 bucks and just got new plugs.
But I STILL don't know if the carb clean was successful, because now I have no spark!!!??? Lol WHAT is going on???
The battery was a little low, so I put it on the charger for a few hours, hopefully that'll help. But if not, has this happened to anyone? Spark one day, but not the next?

Edit: Now it's running. I think it was the battery, im not sure how though, either way its running. It's back to the semi-original issue though. It only runs with the choke on. I tried adjusting the idle, no luck. I turned the idle up and it rev'd way higher, but still died when I closed the choke.

Any suggestions on where to go next?? I'd LOVE to get out and ride!!

I sprayed a little Quick start where ever I thought maybe there might be an air leak. No luck.

Have you balanced the carbs? Sounds like that could be your biggest problem at this point.
