Ok I've switched gears, I'm buying a bike that I can ride while I Restore/build my next bike. So I've found a Honda cb750f 1979 in very good shape. The guy I'm buying from is about sixty ang has had the bike since 96, taken it to Califonia and seveal other places. Has very good records and the bike runs real well. All usual checks with a mechanic I trust. Has a few cosmetic things and a little rust in the tank, but like I said runs nice. What should I offer him. This said I will be buying tomarrow so time is key. Thanks if ya can help, otherwise I will post a Picture soon. David

I would offer him around a grand, if it is in very good shape. It's really too old to be worth any more.

One thing I should mention. I did notice a very slow drip(1-2 drops every five minutes running) that seemed to be coming from the gear shifter. The leak did not smell of gas and wasn't to dirty. Should that be a concern? Thanks

Sounds like a bad seal where the shift linkage goes into the tranny. If you're mechanically inclined it shouldn't be too difficult to replace. Don't ignore it though - run the thing out of oil and the engine goes bye-bye.

I got it and getting it legal today. I like it very much. Needs some cosmetic work and some fiddling this winter but it's very sound for the rest of the riding season here in NC. Thanks for the advice. Pics comming soon.
