Heh all you folks that bought new bikes> I am a newbie and want a new bike but have never went in to actually buy one, will they negotiate on price or is it MSRP and tough s___ if you don't like it? Or does it depend on the dealer? Are there ever any rebates like on cars etc?? Do ya ever get any "free" stuff?

Depends on the bike, depends on the time of year, depends on the dealer, depends how well you negotiate.

I ended up getting mine for less then MSRP after taxes/fright/assembly/bend you over and rape you. But I bought an unpopular bike.

I bought a new Vulcan 1500 Classic FI last month and by shopping around I was able to save $1400. I emailed every dealer I could find within 200 miles and called the ones that seemed to want to deal. I started by wanting a Harley but after talking to several dealers they turned me off. I think I made about as good a deal as I could and I'm very satisfied. Hope this helps.

You may or may not be able to get a good deal on a neqw bike.

However, i would strongly suggest you consider used for a first ride. Simply because, no matter how much of a deal you get, you're gonna take a massive whack on depreciation when you get around to upgrading.

Also, as a learner bike, there is that bit higher chance that you may drop it - it's not a certainty, but a possibility. And it's a whole lot better dropping a 2nd hand $1500 bike than it is a brand new $4-5,000 bike!

Brent, NEVER pay more than 90% of MSRP for OTD! Doesn't matter what model it is. Don't buy "extended warranty" c-rap either. Freight & set-up is PAID by the manufacturer (it's their liability.) Don't YOU pay for it too. Take someone with you (and NOT a chick either.) Unless she knows what the hell she's doing, she'll get "taken" also.

Brent, you should be able to get a bike OTD for under MSRP unless it's a brand new model or it's so hot that they can't keep it in stock. Be sure to look around and call a few dealers before your ready to deal.

Not if he's looking at Harleys. The vast majority of Harley dealers won't sell at MSRP. American Iron published a list last month of all the dealers in the nation who honored MSRP - seems like there were 20-something dealers on it.
