Why is it ok to use the "C" word which is a derogatory word for a certain part of a woman's anatomy but I can't use the expression "Holy C.r.a.p or p.u.s.s.y. footing around.....
The C word is very, very offensive.

For example

Holy Crap, I'm heading into the ditch.
No more "wimp" footing around....get the lead out.

hmmm.
imo that word is only derogatory if you call someone a c___.
otherwise it may be coarse, but isnt derogatory. <--really depends who you talk to though..
it was only used anyhow to make the same point as you are about not being to say crap or other playground swears...
sry you feel that way though!

I think I know what you're talking about - if the censor is skipping words that should be caught, just let Mike (Totalmotorcycle) know. If he can correct the situation, he will right away. I'm not sure what program he uses for censoring, but he is always welcome to comments about how things go here.

Cheers,
Loonette

i think the whole 'bad word' thing is just stupid, its only a word you can replace 'bad' words with variations that are acceptable but to me its the meaning behind the word that matters not the actual word. saying crap instead of sh__ is just childish. focusing on a word making it out to be 'bad' needs to stop, people should just grow up and get over these words.

that being said i dont curse at all, just because i know the words mean no thing and i can express myself in another way. i dont care though if people around me curse doesnt effect me at all. they are just words someone decided that are bad to say, its their humble opinion a word is bad. the same people that think cursing is so wrong and never curse are the ones that say 'crap' or 'fricken' alot. means the exact same thing just a simple variation in its pronunciation just makes no sense at all to me. im sorry for all the people that are like that, completly childish.

I agree with the substitution part of what you said, means the same on the inside. I still think it's a good idea to keep a forum as child-safe as possible...especially one like this, with so much family-fun related info on it.

Lenny Bruce use to say that there are no dirty words , only dirty minds . I tend to agree with that .
Years ago I use to work with a guy that professed to be ultra religous , yet could take the most innocuous words and make them sound worse than any cuss words I could ever use . Imnsho , it is never the words you may use , but rather the intent in which you use them .

i do agree, but if we keep censoring things the kids will just keep going on thinking they are 'bad' if we educate the kids and they know the difference between a bad word and another word said with bad intent wed all be better off and not have to censor certain words.

i think the source of the content should have the right to censor or not, if this site decides to censor more power to them, if a tv show or radio show doesnt want to censor they should have that right as well. the govt. shouldnt step in to censor words we can say and cant say.

will end up like 1984(george orwell) ;)

My point is this...if you are going to censor some words you must censor them all.....
Otherwise don't censor any....

Just curious, have you run across this word here recently? I admit I don't read every single post, but I read most of them, and I can't remember seeing for months and months. I think I may have been the last to use it  and that was at least a year ago, and that was by accident. Trying to post all the banned words and seeing what the censor-bot replacement was, I found it didn't have a replacement for that particular word.

What gets me is that I hear azz, blitch and other such words on the radio(and worse in many songs) and TV everyday where kids can hear them easily, but they are unusable here. I have 2 female dogs, but the proper name for them is considered vulgar???? The English language is always evolveing and changeing society perspectives mean words that would get you arrested 30 years ago are now used in Stae Of The Union Adresses....

Hi All,

Wow, lots of great opinions and thoughts on this topic! Thanks for all your input, it is much appreciated.

I am very open and welcome these discussions as it only makes the community a better place for all to come. :D

As we do have children as active members on the forum it is important to censor the worst words as a courtesy to them. That's why I've choosen to censor some words. The censoring issue isn't about "your not allowed to see or type such and such" but about making the posts readable for everyone.

Music today does contain a lot of harsh swear words and sexual wording as well. Surprisingly, each year this music seems to be less censored than the last.

To address Bleus2cruise's comment:

Those are the PC censor at work censoring those two offensive words. But I can swap out "Bank" and "Crumb" for any other word others may suggest if you find "Bank" and "Crumb" offensive. I can only censor words, not sentences.

So if you want me to censor other words you find on here very offensive then of course just PM suggestions to me. :D

My door is always open. Sorry for not getting to this post sooner, I took 2 days off for some traveling R&R.

Mike.
