My wife and I are from the UK, we are planning a trip to the USA flying into Chicago 13th August, driving to Indianapolis on Friday for the MotoGP and then driving to Yellowstone and flying out of Denver 11th September.
We have some ideas for the trip but I wonder what suggestions you may have for us, especially on the drive to Wyoming.
We would like to take in some American sport - Rodeo, flat track, road racing, baseball etc. and Music - Blues, Country, rock and roll and jazz.
Plus of course western history and the National Parks.

It's been a long while since I was in Chicago (my boot camp wasn't too far from there), but I seem to remember it was a pretty good place for live music; you might have some luck with blues there. Nashville and Branson, MO, though a little out of your way, would both be good places for country music. Chicago has both the Cubs and White Sox, so catching a baseball game is not a problem...they can be pretty pricey, though. You might be able to catch a rodeo in Wyoming, and Yellowstone National Park is in the northwestern corner of the state. On the subject of national parks, it sounds very much out of your way, but if you get the chance, I highly recommend that you visit Yosemite National Park.
It's been over four years since I've been able to venture outside California, but hopefully I've at least been of some help. Enjoy your trip!

It would be real easy to hit Mount Rushmore on the way to Yellowstone from Indianapolis, it's right on the way. I've heard that Custer (the nearest town to Rushmore) is pretty rough though, so steer clear of that little burg.
Yellowstone is absolutely a great idea. Don't miss Old Faithful on your way through, it doesn't sound like much but it's really a hell of a thing to witness.
And Colorado presents some new recreational opportunities this year, not my cuppa tea but worth looking into. (-;
One note -- if you're already coming as far west as Denver for your return flight, any chance of changing your departure city to Phoenix, AZ, or Las Vegas, NV? As close as you'd be to the Grand Canyon, it'd really be a shame to miss that particular sight.

In Chicago, you will use the "L" to get around. It is a train that zips and zaps rapidly and beats driving by MILES. Great town. You will want to visit the Sears Tower, worlds 'former' tallest building and it is a MUST SEE. I visited the Museum of Industry--great stuff. Headed to the lake, Navy pier I think it's called and had a fantastic dinner with my lovely lass and her daughter. There is so much to take in there! Food is GREAT.
I'm from Montana and ride all over the midwest normally each year. Great biking roads. Dakota's for sure! If you drive to Denver, go into it from the west and enjoy 14000 feet of elevation! Don't be surprised by the snow
I hope you guys have a perfect trip! So much to see in this wide land.
Regards,
