Hi, have been very busy recently with motorcycle politics here in the UK.

Today I have had the honour & sadness of representing MAG UK at the funeral of a young lass, killed on her moped at the tender age of 16.

Words from the service included "hold your loved ones close".

Think on folks - I started riding at the age of 16. Wherever you are in the world, whatever your mindset, we should protect the young rider & help them enjoy the freedom of the road.

Very sad...other driver awareness issue, or rider error?

Not to put out blame, but most accidents are rider error, mine was but I was lucky not to hit anything other than some gravel...bruised & embarrassed, but not hurt...I was extremely lucky, lot's aren't so lucky.

The driver of vehicle involved failed to remain at scene & left her dying. The accident happened on a busy, fast dual carriageway in the dark. It is possible that the relative underpower of the moped would have compromised her safety but she was perfectly legal to ride there.

A 58 yr old man was arrested & charged yesterday after apparently hiding for a month. He appeared in court today charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failure to stop at scene & driving whilst disqualified, without insurance! Whilst he has yet to be found guilty this man is reported to be under a ban for drink driving, has a well paid professional job as Health & Safety Consultant & regularly commutes on that piece of road in his very expensive 4x4.

He has not denied being at scene - just denies causing accident.

Regardless of who caused it - to leave a child dying is unforgivable!

A damned shame about the child. Too young indeed.

In my state, mopeds may not be legally operated on "four-lane highways divided by a median, ........ and highways with a speed limit over 50 mph" A "fast dual carriageway" sounds like it would be illegal for mopeds here.

Of course, that doesn't excuse the driver from not giving aid. Leaving the scene of a fatal accident here is a "3rd degree crime, punishable by 3-5 years in state prison."

Laws here for the moped are very similar, just the out come for causing death is different. It's pretty much open season on any form of two wheelers. Most below 50cc scoots don't even require an M/C endorsement even though there's really no difference in how an M/C operates. RIP sweet child

I just watched my buddy wreck this evening. Held his head as rescue crew cut off his gear. I can not even imagine leaving a scene, but then, I am human, some of those amongst us I believe, are not.
