2013 Ural Gear-Up

Want to stand out in a crowd, and be able to disappear in the woods or desert? Try the 2WD 2013 Ural Gear-Up. Just like its cousin, the 2013 Ural Patrol—with its on-demand sidecar drive—Gear-Up's origins trace back to the military past of the Ural motorcycle family. The 2013 Ural Gear-Up combination is as tough as a Russian AK-47!

Despite its clearly military upbringing, the Gear-Up is equally fit for more peaceful missions, such as fishing or hunting trips. If outdoor adventures are not your forte, you can still amaze your friends with the motorcycle's ability to blaze over outdoor obstacles or urban challenges. Did we mention its irresistible camo paint schemes?

The 2013 Ural Gear-Up is available in Forest Fog, Gobi Desert Camo, or Forest Camo.

2013 Ural Gear-Up Features and Benefits

Boxer

Reliable, stout, and proven, the boxer layout could be the last engine you ever ride. Air cooled, and elegant, this motor is the heart of every Ural we build.

Powdercoated Finish

Tough, uniform, and incredibly sharp, some 2013 models received powdercoated—not painted—finishes.

Brembo & Sachs

Stop with ease—Brembo full floating disc on the front—and know the terrain—Sachs suspension.

This week on the Cool Wall we go from the street cruising V-Star 650 to today toughest Russian 2WD motorcycle with sidecar available. The 2013 Ural Gear-Up might not be everyone's cup of vodka, but what you do think of it?

This video will give you some idea of what this "tough as AK-47" motorcycle is all about:

You need a picture of the shaft from the powered rear wheel to the sidecar wheel. That's the main thing that makes this puppy anyway cool.

For the price of a ural, you can buy a modern motorcycle (say a yamaha 900), and bolt on a nicer aftermarket sidecar. If the ural would go to all disk brakes and update the powerplant so it can achieve and sustain freeway operations then I'd give it a nicer vote, but for $14k and a design from 1940- it's uncool. Only the 2wd feature keeps it from fail.

I'll leave the price out of the Ural's awesomeness. If I could afford to keep two bike insured, this could be a second choice for me. Ever since I first saw this at an M/C show, I've been very intrigued. Just watching the mfg's videos is enough to make me consider this bike. Yes, it's outdated, yes, it could use a new power plant, but to me, neither of those take away from the bike itself...

I'm with Storys on this. Upgrade to a powerplant able to sustain 80 MPH with a loaded sidecar, switch to disc brakes, and it's awesome. As is it's cool to me, but no way am I paying 14K for the EXACT same bike they were selling in the 40s.

I should have read the specs before I voted. I voted cool, but this bike can't even go on a road trip.

I vote fail due to the lack of power.

I voted cool...more for the style & feel of the bike, but really it should be less (reasons stated above)...but I like the idea of an all season bike...and the Spyder is even more than that, so ...

Later.

Maybe this helps? "Top speed is somewhere past 70 mph, but we found the sweet spot to be somewhere between 55 and 65 mph. " - Autoblog

My 1980 Honda CB400T had 43hp and I could do 145km/h / 90mph. But the CB400T was quite light (400lbs), the URAL with a side car is much heavier and less aerodynamic, so...

I can't say 40hp is a lack of power, nor should because of this it would change your mind, but it is something to think about. :D

P.s. The voting is always setup so you can change your vote if you want.
