I have heard something about not being able to sit "down into" the V-Star, rather they sit high on it. I guess I feel that tto especially when I sit on the Honda VLX. It does sit "down into" the bike. Does anyone know if it is hard changing the oil? I heard you have to take the exhaust off> Is this true?

The reviews I have read all say that same thing...that you pretty much ride it like a horse, not sitting "down in" like bigger bikes.

Yup.

I would have to recommend the S50 personally. The engine is rock solid, the bike is much quicker and handles far better, and it's just overall a better bike in that size range.

With regard to the 650 V-Star, you DO NOT remove the exhaust pipe(s) to change the oil. That only applied to the 1100 V-Star. With the current 1100 V-Star, you no longer have to loosen the forward pipe, either.

I have ridden both the 650 V-Star and the S-50. It would be a tough choice between them, they are both very good machines.

Well, I can't get over the God-awful ugly swingarm on the V-Star 650, and an engine that small just can't do it for me. The S50 atleast has some balls, and looks as though it can handle its own in the twisties.

My pick would be the suzuki. They seem to really have the 800cc bikes figured out.

I had the same choice between the 650 silverado and S50. I took the S50. Lighter weight, narrower feel and a more custom look (in my opinion). S50 performance is outstanding. Plus it was about $300 less. I will how ever be putting that $300 back into it with windshield and saddle bags (which the silverado already had).
