This bike JUST came out of the gates and TMW had it up first thing that morning before everyone else (and may I add with massive amounts of information for it and HD photos too!).

Anyways, this is Yamaha's FIRST 3-cylinder bike in a very, very long time... how long? Well, if my memory serves me right (and I'm not Googleing this) Yamaha's last 3-cylinder bike was in the late 70's and I believe it was a 2-stroke (XS750)?


(I did Google the photo of one after I wrote the above, and it appears it was a 3 cylinder, but am I right that it was the last one from Yamaha... but I think I was wrong that was it a 2-stroke?)

Is it a Triumph Street Triple beater? Or even a copy of the MV Agusta Brutale 800? or something completely new?

I know the XS850 was a triple and I think it was made through the 80s, but I could be wrong. Definitely a 4 stroke though. Fun to ride!

That said, I love the FZ8. The FZ9 is lighter, more powerful, and a triple... Love it!

I love the idea I love a triple but it's brandy new so I only gave it a cool but with awesome undertones

I voted "cool" for the technology and interesting styling. I particularly like the swingarm design and the way the stubby exhaust tucks up underneath it. But what is with the "1yr limited warranty"?

Gave it a cool, the only reason I didn't go higher was the headlamp... I guess us old guys and change... LOL

The headlight does seem... incomplete. But the rest of the package at that price has me voting awesome. I may be biased as I own a 1980 XS 850 Triple (4 stroke :p ) but I've been waiting for an affordable mid level bike for shenanigans to augment my aging V-strom for awhile. This is the first one that speaks to me.

If they can offer a 5yr warranty on their Royal Star lineup, why can't they do the same for the rest of their models? By comparison, Ural offers a 2yr unlimited mileage warranty, Royal Enfield has a 2yr/10k warranty, Harley has a 2yr warranty, BMW offers a 3yr warranty...

I also don't like the headlight which I think is part of a trend towards angularity in motorcycle forms. We can also see this in the new Honda CB500F and it certainly follows styling queues from the Ducati Streetfighter and the MV Agusta Brutale offerings with the Rivale being the extreme example of angularity in design.

Personally, I don't like this trend, but I do like that Yamaha is offering a triple.
