Engine noise

I am not sure if this is the right area for this...but here it goes.I have a 1995 Honda Magna 750 v-4 and it has developed a very tinny sounding tick coming from the right side of the engine. It comes and goes, usually louder when the engine is first fired up.If I crack the throttle a bit the noise will disapear and may or may not reappear? The tick seems to go away at higher RPM's(above 2000).The noise is loudest at the exaust pipe and not so noticeable as I move my ear towards the crankcase.Anyone with suggestions or similar experiences?
Thanks
Conrad

I wish that I could help you, but I have no knowledge in this area. I'm going to move this to the Trouble Shooting forum in the Total Motorcycle Garage section. You'll probably get a quicker response there. Good luck!
Cheers,

I'm not familiar with the v-4 hondas. I think it would be best to isolate the noise a little more though. You can buy a mechanics stethoscope from a toolshop or you can use a long bladed screwdriver and put the tip on various places where the noise seems to be coming from, and put your ear on the handle to "Hear" the noise better and see where it's the loudest.
Some possible culprits are Timing chains or oil pump chain - it's also possible that your valves are out of adjustment (If the bike has shimmed valves)

Just pray it isn't a camchain or the tensioner. Honda has had issues with them in the past.
I just thought I could hear a Tititititit from mine this morning. Not good.

I listened a bit closer to the ticking sound this weekend.I am sure its not the engine, but how about a loose baffle or something in the pipe? Has anyone come across this mysterious ticking, that is driving me nuts... It is definateley coming from only one of the four pipes they are aftermarket and I cannot for thr life of me rembember what make they are.. help

Could it be a valve that needs adjusting? Have you had your valve clearances checked?

Are all the bolts and seals in the exhaust tight and good? Could be a small exhaust leak.
