Commuting by motorcycle is good for EVERYONE.

"Motorcycle riders don’t just save themselves time and money, they do the same for car drivers, and they also help to reduce the emissions of cars."

Oldish article, and nothing we don't already know from sheer common sense. I'm just surprised there's an actual study.

That's awesome they did a study. I find it's good for my mental health, but that wasn't something they were measuring.

I'll argue that it's actually more expensive in the long run due to the fact that bike tires, chains, etc need to be maintained at much more frequent intervals than cars.

It definitely helps with congestion and emissions considering that one person is usually in a vehicle getting half of what a bike does mpg-wise and taking up 2-3 times the space.

I'd say generally commuting to work nine month out of 12 is good for my health and sanity....generally.....however today almost proved to the exception to the rule, had some idiot decided that they could freely disregard the laws of physics in regards to having two solid masses occupying the same time/space continuum and tried to change lanes without checking to see what was beside them......thankfully the old Connie's horn is nice and loud.....silly bugger.

This is grounds for a rebuttal from the "loud pipes save lives" crowd. Thankfully, that ain't me - my bike has stock pipes and an air horn. :)

A modern bike with a catalyst in the exhaust might be a tad cleaner than a car, but any older bike without one is going to put out more emissions than a late model car.

If you read the article closely you will see that the actual reduction in emissions is because the cars emit way less due to increased efficiency in traffic flow. The change introduced was 10% switch to motorcycles.

I saw something related on Mythbusters. Carbon dioxide emissions are directly linked to the amount of fuel consumed, and so are lower for bikes than cars. But other emissions like carbon monoxide, various oxides of nitrogen, etc, are proportionally higher for bikes.

I commute to work by motorcycle for sanity...... :crazycrazy: not so much for efficiency, cost, or the environment.

I commute by bike for a lot of reasons...less cost for fuel, easier to find a place to park. More like an adventure than in the car.
