82 gs650gl valve lash

Whats the valve clearance for this bike. Can I get a better price than $12 for the shims. what are some tips to adjust the carbs at home just to get them close. The mixture screws have already been messed with. two cylinders run lean and the other two run rich.

Valve clearance can be found in the service manual. The carbs idle jet adjustment starts at 2½ turns out. Carb balance can be set by using a manometer (you can search this site for my instructions for making your own manometer out of a couple of baby bottles, a couple of rubber stoppers, a couple feet of clear hose, some mineral oil, and some food coloring).
