I think the problem I have been having is when I cleaned my carbs 3 months ago and put them back together I mixed up the emulsion tubes--I have two downdraft carbs and two side draft carbs and to day I noticed a difference between the emulsion tubes--two have small holes and two have larger holes--end holes not the pin holes on the sides the end opposite the jet end--do you know where the two with larger holes go??on the front carbs or the back carbs??
I have a spare set of carbs that are no good but today I was fooling around with them and noticed the difference between the emulsion tubes but unfortuneatly I had already mixed them up too. When I put my good carbs back together I paid no attention to these emulsion tubes or jet holders thinking they were all the same since the jets were all the same size #108's
This is a 1984 honda vf500 v30 magna runs good till I open her up--then I get stumbling after 6 thou rpm's.

Hi there Bob. Have you taken the carbs back apart yet? When you do, put the two emulsion tubes with the small holes in the front set of carbs, and the ones with the big holes on the rear set. If the bike doesn't run right after that you need to switch them.

So you don't know either!!!

That is what I planned to do if I can't get a definite answer--the old 50/50 trick--but with my gambling luck I will get it wrong the first time without fail. There is a genuine shop manuel (not clymer or hanes) for sale on amazon for $100--do you you think this book will tell me about the emulsion tubes??
THANKS FOR QUICK REPLY Johnj.

I'd look at the parts fiche at Bike Bandit first. The book will tell you not to mix the parts, but it may have the exploded view.

It's an old timers term. It refers to MICROFICHE: a sheet of microfilm containing rows of images of printed pages. It's how we looked up parts before computers were used.

Took her for a test run today and it is running like new at last

I put larger emulsion tubes in the rear carbs and one shim on my slider needles---lesson here never mix up parts on a honda v4 carb!!!
Somuch thanks Johnj for your feed back--
