Wire Degradation
Wire Degradation
Well this is what I think I have. I hit a bump and my bike turns off and then turns back on while I am going down the highway. Its getting worse as time goes by. The first time it did it, I nearly crapped my pants cause I was getting on the highway and trying to get infront of an 18 wheeler, yea, stupid I know. Anyways I checked out all of the wiring hitting all of the lines while running with no luck. Any ideas?

That doesn't sound like much fun. I had a bike that would give a little horn beep over big bumps. Anyway, I don't have any practical advice for you - I'm going to move this to the Trouble Shooting Forum in the Total Motorcycle Garage section. You bound to get lots of good responses there. Good luck!

Well I checked the fuses, all seem ok. I moved the key around vigourously and it did turn off, but it seemed to be in range of acceptable movement. I dont know, if it is the ignition switch I am going to take it in to a shop, I probably could fix it but I would screw something else up. Plus I couldnt tell where the service manuel said where to disconnect it.
Well I might try and fix it myself. I am not convinced that it is the ignition switch though. I am going to ride and see if I can jiggle the key and see, once again not the smartest thing, but... Can most dealers run a diagnostic for things such as that or do they just have to take it one thing at a time? Also does it cost money to run a diagnostic if they can? Thanks for the help. I will let you know what I think when I get back.
Is there a web site for the K&L replacement or should i just google it?

Well it took it for a ride but the road i took didnt have any bumps on it, so it didnt do it, i want to say i think had something wrong with the switch before come to think of it, it was the first year i had it, i bought it new, it would still run but i would loose my lights and odometer, but would come back on after i truned the key off and back on, after a couple of times of that i took it in and i believe thats what they told me it was, of course it was still under warranty, and as long as it was fine after that i didnt care. Oh well if i find out what it is i will let you know. Thanks again.
