I finally got my bike running to day and everything was fine for about 10 minutes and the all of a sudden I had no throttle response while the bike was in gear,

if I shifted into neutral, i could rev it and it the rpm would increase but while in gear there was no response and the bike would want to die.

I let it sit for 5 minutes and then it was back to running good.

It's an old bike but is something electronic overheating?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ahhhh....I can't take this rollercoaster ride anymore!!!

That's gotta be disheartening for sure...good luck finding out the source of the problem...

yeah.. this bike is driving me friggin nuts, its getting to the point where I'm trusting after new bikes simply because I want to ride and I know they will run.

It is disheatening, I spent so long trying to get the bastrd to run and now that it's runnig i still can't ride the damn things because I don't want to get stuck miles from my house with a bike that won't run...like I did last night!

Have you checked to see that you have good fuel delivery to the carbs??? If your filters in the tank are dirty it will restrict the fuel. No kinks in the fuel line. The on off valve working okay. Is the tank venting properly??? Good Luck

maybe, but the things is it was running perfect for like 10 mins then all of a sudden, no power.

I shut if off for 5 minutes and then it ran fine after that.

I can't remember if we discussed the coil(s) before..but that sounds like an ignition componant heating up and then the no running part....dunno....have you replaced the coils?

I had a bad gas cap once that caused the same thing. It would build up a vacuum in the tank because the venting wasn't working properly. Fuel would stop flowing, motor would die or just about die, then I would shut it down, the vent would slowly let in some air, I'd start it, and repeat the performance...

Now, after I spewed so much cr*p, is there any chance that there is the same problem with your gas cap???

Yep. As dr_bar said. It sounds to me like a venting problem. If it happens again, open the tank fill cap and see if that corrects the problem. Iffen it do, then you know what the problem is. Been there, done it.

I have the same problem. Any chance you guys could point me to where I could find or download a diagram of how to check the coil wiring, etc on a '88 Ninja 600c? Thanks in advance!!

Hopefully the answers above have solved your problem, but I'll throw my two cents in anyway.
From your description it sounds like one cylinder is fading out on you, which would allow the bike to run, but not well (not, for instance, move while in gear). There would be a drop in rpms on the tach, but maybe not so much that it just stalls out, even on a twin.
When this happened on my bike, it was due to a loose spark plug wire.
If this sounds like a possibility, just take off one of the wires next time it happens (while it's still running). If nothing changes, that's the one. If everything just stops, the other one's faulty (try it the other way to be sure). If the RPMs drop like you're NOW running on one cylinder, then it's not the spark, and ignore everything I just said.
