Poor old Connie, looks like she has run her last race. Judging by the amount of work needed to get her up to snuff, I would be better off getting a new to me (used) bike of a younger age.

I am looking for another Sport Tourer and ideally would like to keep the price down around C$5000.

These are the bikes I would be interested in:

Kawasaki Concours 1000 (not the Connie 14, too big for my daily needs)
Honda ST 1100 (not the ST 1300, given the speeds I usually travel, I don't want deal with the dreaded Pan Weave)
Honda VFR 800
Yamaha FJR
Suzuki Bandit 1200

Of course I would cheerfully kill anyone you wish dead'ded for one of the following:
Triumph Sprint ST
Triumph Trophy

I am not one for fancy bells and whistles that many of the newer bikes come with such as traction control, electronic windshields, heated saddles or grips, actually about the only bit of tech I wouldn't mind is ABS but its not a biggie.

Anyways, if anyone know of a or has good machine in North America up for sale, please drop me a line.

not really what I am looking for plus a bit out of my price range. Found a nice 2007 Triumph Sprint ST for a tad bit over USD5500 out of FLA on Craigslist...pity the Canadian Dollar has taken a bit of a dive these past two weeks.

Sprint is a great machine the older trophy is a great find as well I believe they were 4 cyl though. The sport tourer Buell I liked the best was the S series 2/3 they were really a fun ride I was just messing about with the Uly the XT is an XB series with bags doesn't have the huge seat height or the dirt bike handle bars but finding one of them in your price range would not be easy.
Best of luck finding the right machine though.

There were 3 and 4 cylinder Trophys, 900 and 1200 cc. Very, very similar in appearance, the 900 made less power but the engine was lighter, so performance-wise the difference was a wash. Like any bike they have a couple of quirks (electrical coils for Trophys) and once those are sorted they're pretty bulletproof.

You can still find them for sale if you dig around a bit. Unfortunately the closest ones to Ceemes I could find are down in California. Probably a lot easier to find a Sprint.

You would think that, but good Sprints are hard to find up here, people tend to hold onto them. Funny you should mention the Trophy 1200, before I brought the Connie, I was planning on getting a Trophy 1200 from one of the local stealerships, was just waiting for my severance package to come in from my old company that shut down their operations in the west. Offered to put a deposit down on the bike but the sales guy said no need, he would hold it for me. Day I got my package I went back to the stealership and found out that the bike had been sold to someone else that very day....bugger.

Years ago I test rode both the 900 and 1200 versions of the Trophy. The 1200 was way too much bike for what I needed at the time (100km round trip commute and short weekend hops) so I opted for the 900. The dealer couldn't get one in, though, so I ended up with the then new '01 Tiger 955i. In retrospect, I should have held out for the Trophy.

Anyway, ceemes, too bad you don't want to risk the ST1300 because I know of one locally you could get for a very good price. They've had it for awhile and could be talked down a couple hundred: http://www.hutchauto.com/autos/index.ph ... category=5

The 13's have a nasty habit of going into weave instability mode at high speeds. In 2007, a British motorcycle cop was killed on his ST1300 when he lost control of it when it started weaving in the rear. Later a seniour British motorcycle cop riding instructor was seriously injured replicating the weave. The issue became so serious that a number of British police forces retired their ST1300's and brought their ST1100's out of mothballs. A few riding magazines also were able to replicate the weave and polling on ST1300 riders in the UK, they found at least 43% of them have experienced it.

Considering the "Pan Weave" was reported to occur at speeds around 180kmh, though, I'm wondering what just type of riding you're planning to do?

Anyway, aside from the ST, there must be something suitable to be found in your neck of the woods...?
