I finally got a look at my bike after my accident nearly 3 months ago. It was a write off and is now in the hands of a disposal company.
Prior to the accident I had ordered some parts to make a few changes, so I have some new bars, a new set of headlights, levers, indicators etc sitting at home.
Looking at the bike I am now not sure whether to buy it back, as I originally intended, or to pick up a similar undamaged Bandit and go from there. If I do buy mine back I should be able to get a nice Yoshi can and maybe a secondhand engine cover with the leftover cash from my insurance claim.
Currently 96/97 Bandits are going for $7000+ Australian, So I am not sure if I should fork out the extra cash or just get mine back and fix it up over time.

Why was it written off and what is the buy back cost? If it still runs and the frame wasn't bent I'd get it back. cosmetic damage is the easiest to fix and if that is all it is you may come out money ahead.

I'm w/ Scott - If the frame is good, and you've already got some new cosmetic parts for it, I'd buy it back. You know the wear and tear on this bike - might as well stick with what you know.

on the link it says cosmetic damage, and slightly bent subframe.... I'd vote get a different one

What it says and what it is could be two entirely different things. I'd take a look at it for myself (assuming that you havn't done so already)

Aye - You know the damage the best - the subframe just holds the seat in place and can be fixed with minimal hassle. Some bikes you can just buy a new subframe and bolt it on. Doesn't look like your bandit's one of em tho (From the pic)

If you know a competant bike shop, you should ask them for a repair estimate.

I guess it all depends on the price.

I am damn happy now.
I just bought a 03 1200 Bandit instead of getting my 96 model back. The price was too good to refuse and it has less damage than my bike. I managed to get it for US $3000, and they are currently selling for around $8000. It has done 24000 kms, which is 31000 less than my old bike.

I still can't walk from my accident so it will give me plenty of time to fix up the bike for when I can ride again.

Well done Mint, you now have a purpose, put some TLC into that machine and we hope to hear you have healed and are riding again soon.
